Biography

Timeline

1944
Nathan Slate Joseph creates abstract compositions of pigmented galvanized steel. Joseph’s unique process entails oxidizing metal and inorganic pigments, then soldering the squares together resulting in overlapping patchwork designs that act as a dialogue between the forces of Nature and Man and reveal influences of Abstract Expressionism and Chosen Object Art. Nathan moved to New York in the mid 1960s pursuing study at the ArtStudents League, the New School for Social Research and graduated from the Int’l School of Photography. He is a compatriot of such influential artists as Larry Rivers and John Chamberlain, who nominated him for the Guggenheim Fellowship. Nathan has been represented by Keyes Art Gallery for over 4 years. His work is in the personal and public collections of Beth Rudin De Woody, the Johnson & Johnson Collection in Racine, Wisconsin and Prudential Insurance, New York, NY to name a few. In 2010 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Florence Biennale.
