Kostuik Gallery is pleased to present a duo exhibition of new artworks by two Canadian artists, Stu Oxley and Curtis Cutshaw who have each been represented by Jennifer Kostuik for over 20 years. Both masters of abstraction, Stu Oxley’s serene paintings on paper with their expressive markings are contrasted with Curtis Cutshaw’s rough outlines and elaborately layered wood constructions. Comparatively, Oxley has created works in his typical medium-sized scale whereas Cutshaw has played in large and small, energetic and intimate assemblages. Each artist created these new works over the course of the last year where they found time to reflect and further develop their practices.

BIOGRAPHY: Stu Oxley is based in Ontario andis an outstanding Canadian artist with a 40-year history of exhibitions in national and international, public and private galleries. Primarily working as a printmaker and painter, his practice is defined by a distinctive form of poetic abstraction involving evocative colour and exquisite mark making.

BIOGRAPHY: Curtis Cutshaw is based in Calgary, Alberta and conceptualizes art that is both painterly and sculptural. Cutshaw has presented a number of different series includingWatermark, images made using dowsing rods, and Levels and Construct, birch bark and black enamel collage paintings. This new body of work is made of both created and found materials that are colorful and graphic, giving new life and purpose to items that have lost their original use.
