About the Artist
Philip Craig was born in Ottawa in 1951. From an early age, he was encouraged by his parents to pursue his interest in art. In 1971, he graduated from Sheridan College of Art and Design. The next decade was spent living in Newfoundland, where Craig addressed traditional subjects until he returned to Ottawa in 1986 determined to paint full time.

His unceasing energy for painting and searching for new subject matter compelled him to travel widely. By visiting England, France, Italy, Morocco and India, Craig developed his technical ability through his representation of foreign sites. Most recently, the Canadian landscape with its diverse regions has been a focus. These travels not only enriched his palette but also provided him with a deeper understanding of light.

Craig is deeply committed to charitable efforts in Canada and abroad such as Grapes for Humanity/US and Operation Walk. The former charity hosts the Philip Craig Arts Program, an initiative for Haitian amputees and disabled children which is the first of its kind program in Haiti. Craig and his wife, Diane also raised substantial funds for Operation Walk, which sponsors knee and hip replacements in Guatemala.

Loch Gallery is proud to represent the work of Philip Craig, whose paintings can be found in collections in Canada, the U.S., England, and around the world.
