Modern Fine Art was founded in 2023 by Ray Waterhouse in New York, with an office in London. Although a new gallery by name, Ray brings his 40 years of experience in the international art market and all his New York colleagues from his previous gallery, Waterhouse & Dodd, which he co-founded in 1987.
Modern Fine Art will also retain the same New York gallery and all 20th century and Contemporary artworks. Modern Fine Art has works in inventory by 20th Century Masters including Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miro and Leger, Post-War American artists such as Lichtenstein, Calder and Wesselmann, and a selection of emerging, mid-career and established living artists. With Sandra Safta Waterhouse, Director, and Paul Carney, Associate Director, Ray’s philosophy is to promote high quality art at fair prices.
Ray Waterhouse worked principally in London until he opened his first gallery in New York in 2010, and is a well respected art market expert. In 1996 he formed an art advisory company Fine Art Brokers, through which he has advised many collectors and museums on acquisitions and sales in deals totaling approximately $750 million. He has brokered paintings by many important artists from 19th century Hudson River and Impressionist schools, through Modernism to 20th and 21st century masters at values up to $20 million each.
Modern Fine Art will exhibit at major art fairs including Art Miami, Art Palm Beach and Treasure House in London. It will also have four exhibitions a year in the New York gallery.
