PAM SHEEHAN | Recent Paintings

San Francisco, CA, USA Tuesday, April 18, 2006–Saturday, June 10, 2006

San Francisco, California: The Paul Thiebaud Gallery is pleased to continue the 2006 season with an exhibition featuring the work of Pam Sheehan. Pam Sheehan: Recent Paintings runs from April 18 through June 10. This is the first solo exhibition of the artist’s work— small-format oils—to be shown on the West Coast.

Working en plein air, the artist immerses herself in a natural setting with the aspiration of completing a composition in one sitting. Deftly executed, the paintings comprising this recent body of work depict an immediate perceptual experience of landscapes both rural and seaside. Fleeting shifts in light and weather find permanent expression within the luminosity and hue of the oils she uses. Subdued in emotion, the viewer is able to form his own impression of the moment depicted, left to navigate freely among the varying moods of nature.

Similar to Robert Kulicke, the artist’s husband and long-time mentor, Pam Sheehan constructs original frames for all of her work. Her compositions of intimate scale are beautifully set in small period frames that accentuate the refined subtleties intrinsic to her work.

Following the completion of a B.F.A. from the Parsons School of Design in New York City, Pam Sheehan studied at the Pennsylvania Academy in Philadelphia and the New York Academy of Art before earning an M.F.A. from Lehman College, City University of New York in 1996. Her work has been featured in various group and solo exhibitions throughout the New York region.

The artist currently resides in Manhattan, dividing her time between teaching and painting.

Public Reception—Tuesday, April 18, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm; open to the public.
