Taught at New York University and accompanied exhibitions of his work to Lima, Peru; Mexico City; London, and Copenhagen

Awarded a Ford Foundation grant and named to the Andrew Mellon Chair of Painting at Carnegie-Mellon University
1989
The National Endowment honored Calcagno with a major painting grant
1993
Died in State College, Pennsylvania, on 22 April
Studied painting in San Francisco with Clyfford Still, Edward Corbett and Mark Rothko after World War II
Held posts at several universities as artist-in-residence, including the Albright School of the University of Buffalo
Awarded fellowships by the Yaddo Foundation in Saratoga Springs, New York, the Macdowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire, and the Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, NM
