ZERO GUILT AT THE PHILIP SLEIN GALLERY

The Philip Slein Gallery is pleased to present Zero Guilt, an exhibition by New York artist John Zinsser. The Brooklyn-based painter received his BA from Yale University, where he studied American Studies and Art History. A veteran of more than 30 solo shows in the U.S. and Europe, Zinsser explores the most fundamental elements of abstraction: paint, ground, space, and gesture. Some of Zinsser's work references gestures such as handwriting, and what he "writes" large is joy—the joy inherent in art-making, with zero guilt.

In 1987 he co-founded Journal of Contemporary Art, a magazine devoted solely to interviews with artists. He has written extensively for such publications and websites as Art in America, FlashArt, ArtNet and Artcritical. He is currently represented by James Graham and Sons gallery in New York. Zinsser teaches at the New York Academy as well as the New School University where he teaches a lecture class devoted to exhibitions in New York City museums and galleries with visits from the featured artists.

In addition, the gallery will present Paul Shank’s Paris/St. Louis Portrait, an exhibition of small-scale portraiture inspired by Paul’s recent travels to Paris.
