Biography

Timeline

One of the Four Scottish Colourists alongside Samuel Peploe, Leslie Hunter and John Duncan Fergusson, Cadell was encouraged to train as a painter by Arthur Melville, a leading member of the Glasgow School.
He studied at the Scottish Royal Academy School and Academie Julien where he came under the influence of the Fauves and Matisse. He subsequently painted still lifes, landscapes, portraits and interiors awash with vibrant colour.
