Miron Schmückle

Miron Schmückle

San Francisco, CA, USA Thursday, September 6, 2007–Saturday, October 13, 2007

Reception: Thursday, September 6, 5:30–7:30PM

For his first solo exhibition in the United States, Hamburg-based artist Miron Schmückle will present large format watercolors that draw on the conventions and imagery of 17th century botanical encyclopedias and Dutch vanitas paintings. Bringing to life a fantastically imaginative and vibrantly colored world of flora and fauna, Schmückle’s sensual and inventive creations also have a critical bite aimed at the horror vacui and love of excess of our world today. For this installation, Schmückle will draw and paint additional botanical motifs directly on the gallery walls creating a fantastical Rococo bower to delight the viewer.

Miron Schmückle was born in 1966 in Sibiu, Romania and moved to Germany in 1988. He studied at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts, Kiehl from 1991–96, spending a year at the Academy of Fine Arts, Hamburg under Maria Abramovic’s tutelage in 1994. Schmückle has just had a solo exhibition at Dörrie*Priess, Berlin, and a forthcoming solo show will be presented at Galerie Emmanuel Post, Leipzig (2007). His work has been included in group exhibitions such as Fai da te – il mondo dell artista, Chiesa San Paolo, Modena, Italy (2006); Baliar en la casa del trompo, Kunsthaus Hamburg, Hamburg and Blumenstücke, Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen, Germany (2005).
