Located in Wilmington, Delaware’s historic Breck’s Mill, Somerville Manning Gallery is unique among small city galleries. The Gallery presents museum-quality works of art and offers personalized support in all aspects of art collecting, including placing works in private collections and museums internationally, as well as assisting its clients in the development of their personal collections. For 40 years, the gallery has offered and exhibited significant works of American art, showcasing its trajectory from the Brandywine Tradition to the American Modernism, Post-War, and Contemporary movements through many critically acclaimed shows while also working with countless museums and institutions to help build their collections.
In addition to introducing current art trends into an area already steeped in a rich art tradition, Somerville Manning Gallery exhibits at renowned Art Fairs across the country, such as the Seattle Art Fair (WA), the Philadelphia Show (PA) and Art on Paper (New York, NY). Distinguished for their expertise on the Wyeth family, Somerville Manning Gallery has created multiple exhibitions on N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, and Jamie Wyeth, as well as the often-underrepresented Wyeth women. Owner, Vickie Manning is nationally recognized as an expert on the artists of the Brandywine School and is regularly consulted by museums and collectors. She contributed her extensive knowledge of N.C. Wyeth and other artists of the Brandywine School to the book Visions of Adventure: N.C. Wyeth and the Brandywine Artists, as well as lending her voice to a forthcoming documentary on the Wyeth women artists. The Gallery continues to create influential exhibitions, like American Masters, and introduce contemporary art trends, as in the recent Ninth Street Women and Their Legacy show, by representing and exhibiting 21st-century work by important American and European artists.
