'now' becomes 'then'... will take place in Idris Khan's current exhibition at Victoria Miro Gallery and will conclude with a special screening of his recently commissioned film, A Memory...after Bach's Cello Suites.
Idris Khan will be joined by writer Geoff Dyer who will read from his book Yoga For People Who Can't Be Bothered To Do It (2003). His most recent book, The Ongoing Moment (2005), an idiosyncratic history of photography, was awarded the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography in New York. He recently received the E.M. Forster Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Winner of the 2003 Whitbread Poetry Prize, Paul Farley will read from his recently published collection of poetry, Tramp in Flames for which he commissioned Idris Khan to create a unique artwork for the cover. Currently Reader in Poetry at Lancaster University, Farley has contributed essays, reviews and criticism to various newspapers and magazine titles, and also regularly writes for Radio, occasionally presenting The Verb, BBC Radio 3's literary magazine programme.
Cellist Gabriella Swallow collaborated with Idris Khan on his film project, A Memory...after Bach's Cello Suites, performing 3 minutes from each of the 6 suites first composed by Bach as recital pieces. Swallow now balances professional engagements with studies on the Royal College Integrated Masters Course. On this occasion she will perform Pression by German Composer Helmut Lachermann.
