Betty Vera is a contemporary American artist whose work exploits photography, painting, woven imagery, and surface design. Delighted by the unexpected, she finds abstract beauty and compelling meaning in ordinary objects, surfaces, and places. Born in 1944, Vera has a BFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA in Studio Art from Montclair State University. She has studied textiles at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design, the Montreal Center for Contemporary Textiles, and the Jacquard Center in North Carolina. Vera’s work has been widely exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the country. She has received grants and awards from Artists Space, Empire State Crafts Alliance, Ruth Chenven Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. She lives and works in Massachusetts.
