Timeline

Did not attend art school but simply studied old and modern masters on his own and painted before nature.
Sailed to Dordrecht, Holland in 1892, where he quickly made a name for himself, winning the patronage of Queens Emma and Wilhelmina.
He is often linked to the Hague School.
He returned to his base in Rochester, New York at the outbreak of World War I.
