Chen Jiang-Hong

Chen Jiang-Hong is a Chinese-born French painter best known for his gestural, free-form abstractions. Made with ink and oil paint, the artist’s work channels both traditional Chinese brush painting and the lyrical work of American artists like Franz Kline and Helen Frankenthaler. Born in 1963 in Tianjin, China, Chen studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. In 1987, he immigrated to France, where he continued his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Chen has also written and illustrated books like Mao and Me in which he recalls his childhood in China during the Cultural Revolution and the effect it had on his family and himself. The artist lives and works in Paris, France.
