David Choe

(American, born 1976)

David Choe is a contemporary American artist working in the disciplines of street art and illustration. Most often figurative, his work features a cartoonish, frenetic graffiti aesthetic that Choe honed in his youth. His subject matter often conflates intense sexual fixation with social, philosophical, and commercial themes. Frequently work with the adult entertainment industry, Choe has produced illustrations for Hustler magazine and has co-hosted a podcast with adult film actress Asa Akira. In 1998, he published a violently sexual graphic novel titled Slow Jams, which received a Xeric Grant for extended publishing and aided in the artist’s rise to fame. Born on April 21, 1976 in Los Angeles, CA, Choe has gone on to hold exhibitions at the Santa Rosa Museum of Contemporary Art in 2005 and at New York City's Jonathan Levine Gallery in 2007.
