Renowned Hollywood photographer Douglas Kirkland (Canadian, b.1934) has captured iconic images of Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot, Coco Chanel, and Diana Ross, among many other celebrities, but he is perhaps best known for his portraits of Marilyn Monroe. Kirkland worked as a special photographer on more than 100 films, and in 1995, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American motion pictures Society of Operating Cameramen. Kirkland has been the recipient of awards from the Art Director’s Club of New York, the International Museum of Photography, Fotofusion, the PhotoImaging, the America Film Institute, Manufacturers and Distributors Association (PMDA), The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the Lucie Foundation awards (2003 Lucie Award Recipient, Achievement in Entertainment). He has had numerous solo exhibitions at museums and galleries in Europe, Australia, and the United States.
