African American artist, Earlie Hudnall, Jr., graduated from the Texas Southern University in Houston in 1968, after serving two years in the Marines during the Vietnam War. While pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education, Hudnall was greatly influenced and mentored by artist John Biggers. In the 1970's under the director of Dr. Thomas Freeman, Hudnall joined the Model Cities Program, and began extensively documenting the African American neighborhoods of Houston. His striking photographs are included in major museum and private collections such as, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Chicago Art Institute, National Museum of American Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. In 2012, Earlie Hudnall's photographs were included in the outstanding traveling exhibition, African American Art: Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Era and Beyond, organized by the Smithsonian Museum of American Art. Currently, Hudnall is the university photographer for Texas Southern University.
