Biography
Ed Hodgkinson is a contemporary British artist best known for his enamel-on-aluminum paintings of the female nude. Executed with deft contour lines, Hodgkinson’s drawing-based practice is concerned with spontaneity and abbreviation. “He uses line without preconceptions, allowing it to surprise him as well as the viewer,” the artist Paul Wuensche said of his work. “His line is daring, elliptical, sometimes surprisingly abstract, subtly textured, controlled but never controlling, above all, felt. This is direct, sensual work, with no apologies made for it.” Born in 1973 in the United Kingdom, he received his BA from the Camberwell College of Art in London. Hodgkinson has gone to exhibit in Cape Town, New York, and London. He continues to live and work in the London, United Kingdom.
