Eoin Burke (American, born )

Timeline

Eoin Burke is a contemporary American artist whose work is rooted in the overlap of the materi-al body and spiritual practice in human culture. Artistically influenced by a range of sources in-cluding Alberto Giacometti, Edgar Degas, Martha Graham, Paul Cézanne and Classical Greek sculpture, Burke builds up gestural figures of epoxy clay over the base structure of steel, wood, or linen. The roughness of the work’s surface sits in tension with the forms of the body. The works are then digitized, and printed in a compressed manner, creating a freestanding bas-relief sculpture, connecting the sculpture back to sacred architecture. Born in 1984, he went on to re-ceive his BFA from University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA and his MFA from Yale Universi-ty in New Haven, CT. Notable shows include MILL ST., New Haven; Ineffable Manifestations at Yale Institute of Sacred Music; The Open at Deitch Projects, Long Island City; and Figure 8 at Artspace, New Haven. He recently completed a series of figures for the non-profit Peace Right Here, creating works for twelve spiritual practices toward personal and communal peace. He lives and works in New Haven, CT.
