Francisco Pereira

Francisco Pereira is a contemporary sculptor and architect. He creates fantastical sculptures in bronze that focus on themes of psychological evolution, including a series of imaginary creatures which he calls Bípedos. These Surrealist figures appear to be constant process of transformation—seeming to shift from the animal to human, from quadrupeds to bipeds. “All work of art results from a creative process," Pereira has explained, "nothing happens randomly and no piece of art is merely a gift of the muses.The path to mature an idea is a long one, inspired and backed by a depth of readings, sketches, work, life and soul experiences, all which nurture the unconscious’ flowerings.” Born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1959, he went on to graduate from as an architect from the Venezuelan Central University before beginning to pursue his artistic practice in 1983.
