The popular work of painter George Rodrigue (American, 1944–2013) focuses on the Cajun culture of the artist’s native Louisiana. He is best known for his Blue Dog series. Rodrigue studied art at the University of Southwest Louisiana and the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. His work has been exhibited at the Salon des Artistes in Paris (1974 and 1975), 226 Decatur Gallery in New Orleans (1978), Galerie Antenia in Paris (1980), Upstairs Gallery in Beverly Hills (1986), and the Gwinett County Arts Museum in Atlanta (1997), among many others. Over the years, he has also exhibited numerous times at the New Orleans Museum of Art, which staged a retrospective of his work in 2008.
