Jim Lee (American, b.1970) is a Contemporary artist whose work examines the painting as an object, though his use of tactile, handmade constructions. Seemingly built out of everyday studio detritus, Lee’s work often includes visible staples and canvas seams, and also incorporates materials such as latex, Styrofoam, rubber, and aluminum. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Freight + Volume in New York, Galerie VidalCuglietta in Brussels, Motus Fort in Tokyo, and Nicelle Beauchene Gallery in New York, among others.
Lee received his BA from Hope College in 1993, and his MFA from the University of Delaware in 1996. He attended the Edward Albee Foundation residency in 2008 and the Farpath Foundation residency in 2010. He lives and works in Brooklyn.
