Timeline

John Clarke Olson was born in Connecticut, moved to Vermont in 1967 following military service. John and his wife have two grown children and also grandchildren. John has been painting since 1975 and continues to paint in a realistic style using oils in a conventional manner. He paints in his studio as well as outside on location. It allows him to create a mood and atmosphere of the many rural landscapes and villages that grace our beautiful state of Vermont.

In 2008 John had visited and painted well over 225 towns of Vermont. His goal was to paint all 251 towns. John reached this goal in 2015.

The Connecticut native is self-taught. He has taken painting classes with the late Stan Mark Wright from Stowe Vermont, David A. Dunlop at Southern Vermont Art Center and T. M. Nicholas (Plein Air Painter) from Gloucester, MA.

John and his wife travel throughout Northern New England to photograph subjects for him to paint. He exhibits his work in several Vermont galleries, and in Maine. His works are included in many private collections throughout the United States and internationally.

John has had solo exhibitions at Southern Vermont Art Center, Robert Paul Galleries and Green Mountain Fine Art Gallery in Stowe Vermont.
