After a short stint in the United States as art editor of Capper Publications, he returned to France

Spent the winter in Provence with fellow artist Kenneth Adams

Returned to the United States and worked as a commercial artist in Kansas City, MO

Married Clyde Bonebreak, who encouraged him to pursue his art career

Joined the Taos artists' colony, Taos, NM

Taught at the Broadmoor Art Academy (later the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center) under the direction of Boardman Robinson

Lockwood rejoined the United States Army as a captain and served for four years
