Jordan Wolfson

(American, born 1980)

Jordan Wolfson is a contemporary American artist working in a wide range of media, including video and installation. Focusing on themes of violence, popular culture, and mental instability, Wolfson’s best-known works include the gyrating masked robot, Female Figure (2014), the Pinocchio-like marionette, Colored Sculpture (2016), and Real Violence (2017), a virtual reality loop depicting a man being brutally beaten to death. “I want to feel more. Where do I feel more? How do I feel more? It was all about feeling more. Turning the volume up and down,” he has explained of his practice. Born on October 9, 1980 in New York, NY, he received his BFA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003. In the years that followed, Wolfson participated in two Whitney Biennials, and was the subject of several solo exhibitions in the United States and Europe. The artist currently lives and works between New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA. Today, his works are held in the collections of the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst in Ghent, and the Tate Modern in London, among others.
