Julia Dixon is a contemporary representational painter based in western Massachusetts. Her work juxtaposes symbols hidden in Christian artworks and classical still lifes, particularly those of the Dutch Golden Age, with modern secular environments and nature to explore the emotional implications of presence and absence, fear, loneliness, and impermanence. Born in 1983, Dixon received her BFA from Purchase College, State University of New York, in 2005 and her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2014. She transitioned to full-time painting in 2020 after a 15-year arts management and consulting career. Her work has been exhibited at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and various galleries throughout the northeast.
