Kate Shepherd is a contemporary American painter known for her subtle abstractions. After first applying several smooth layers of reflective enamel paint, Shepherd creates complex architectural forms with fine lines of oil paint. “I am very interested in the relativity of colors, how they interact and how a palette is created, like in a yearly series of monotypes I do using the same image adjusted and flipped to create 200 different gradations of one hue,” she has said. Born in New York, NY in 1961, she received her BA from Oberlin College in 1982 and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in 1992.  Shepherd’s works are held in the collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others. The artist currently lives and works in New York, NY.
