Katherine Bernhardt (American, b. 1975) is a Contemporary painter. Working with quick, fluid brushwork and a bright palette, Bernhardt renders emaciated, fashionable women and, more recently, playful fields of everyday objects like tacos, cigarettes, and basketballs. During some of her recent exhibitions at CANADA gallery in New York, Bernhardt created full-scale installations, painting the walls and covering the floor in handwoven Moroccan rugs in many overlapping layers.
Bernhardt was born in Clayton, MO and received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and her MFA from the School of Visual Art. Her work has been exhibited by Salon 94 in New York, Macro Future Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome, Carbon 12 in Dubai, galleria Suzanne Tarasieve in Paris, and many more. She lives and works in New York.
