Born in Canada
Born in 1962, Kenneth Emig is a transdisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersections of visual art, the human body, space, motion, sound, light and technology.
Emig received diplomas in Acoustics Engineering and Electronic Engineering from George Brown College in Toronto before working for Bell-Northern Research, Nortel, The National Research Council of Canada, Ryerson University (now The Metropolitan University) and Blackberry. He has won multiple grants from the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council and the City of Ottawa for his visual art, performance and dance works.
Emig's artworks frequently integrate wall mounted, floor and suspended sculpture, installation, as well as performance in natural or constructed environments. He has become known for his theatrical and mesmerizing infinity light boxes that glow with brightly coloured geometry. The artist has completed three public art commissions in Ottawa for the University of Ottawa LRT Station, the Adawe Crossing and the Eva James Memorial Community Centre. Kenneth Emig recently installed one of his largest light boxes—10 ½ ft x 6 ½ ft. in the lobby of a luxury boutique hotel--Pendry in Washington, D.C.
