Markus Tollmann

(German, born 1963)

Markus Tollmann is a German painter best known for his colorful portraits and figurative works. Combining both Expressionist and Cubist elements, his geometric style is inspired by the works of Pablo Picasso and Niki de Saint Phalle. Born in 1963 in Gelsenkirchen-Buer, Germany, from a young age he was determined to pursue a career in the arts. His father, the artist Günter Tollmann, taught him foundational fine art skills as a child and scheduled regular drawing lessons for his son with both Joseph Beuys and Francis Bacon. By the age of nine, the artist had held his first solo exhibition. Tollmann’s works have been exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. Today, he lives and works in Germany.
