Natalie Frank

Natalie Frank is a contemporary American artist who explores themes of femininity, sexuality, and violence in her paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Frank began her career as a figurative painter making large-scale canvas works portraying domestic scenes and power dynamics, exploring sexuality, gender identity, history, and religion. In Frank’s figurative painting practice movement, composition and color palette are used to create portraits that are both intimate and mysterious. Natalie Frank was born in 1980 in Austin, Texas, she received her BA in Studio Art from Yale University in 2002, and her MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University in 2006. A Fulbright Scholar, her work resides in the permanent collections of institutions such as the Whitney Museum of Art in New York, Yale University Art Museum in New Haven, the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, and the Burger Collection in Hong Kong. In March 2019 she completed a large-scale commission for Grimm Tales, a full-length performance at Ballet Austin. Frank currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
