Timeline
Nicholas Winter attended his first photography class in secondary school before studying art & design and photography at Canterbury and Bournemouth colleges in England. The Fine Art Photographer produces silver photographs using darkroom techniques and processes. Nicholas Winter also manipulates Polaroids and creates photographic objects. Based in Basel, Switzerland since 2002, Nicolas Winter’s works have been shown in Europe and are part of private collections. Fragility is a common thread in all of Nicholas Winter's artistic research. The artist observes and examines things hidden from the surface at first glance. The photographer defines fragility by a "constant space": the space between reality and what could or should be. Within this brittle state, this layer, lies the potential to become aware of vulnerability, the impermanence of existence. Through his photographic work, Nicholas Winter highlights the subtleties that make up our lives by clarifying the presence of fragility in our modern society.
