Philip Taaffe (American, b.1955) is an influential Contemporary artist, often working in painting or printmaking, who is known for his colorful and densely patterned works. He was born and raised in New Jersey, and received his BFA from Cooper Union in 1977. He has traveled widely, notably in the Middle East, India, South America, and especially Morocco, and his work displays diverse influences from around the world. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions worldwide, including at Luhring Augustine in New York, the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris, and numerous others. His work can be found in the public collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Rose Art Museum in Waltham, the Essl Museum in Vienna, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, among others.
