Prune Nourry

Prune Nourry is a contemporary French artist who employs sculpture, performance, and photography to explore the topics of bioethics and women’s rights. Nourry’s best-known work is her ongoing Terracotta Daughters project, which consists of burying sculptures portraying of adolescent girls until the year 2030. This work directly references the Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s terracotta army and is meant to confront the issue of selective abortion of female pregnancies in Chinese culture. Born on January 30, 1985 in Paris, France, she studied sculpture at the École Boulle in Paris. After graduating in 2006, Nourry has gone on to be the subject of a number of international exhibitions. She currently lives and works between New York, NY and Paris, France with her husband the artist JR.
