Biography
Thomas Campbell is an American artist best known for his paintings, prints, textile work, and films. Combining aspects of surf culture, street art, and collage, his work evokes the dynamic movement of waves. Born in 1969 in California, Campbell grew up entrenched in the surfing and skateboarding culture that shaped Californian youth in the late 1970s. He went on to help establish the Mission School art movement in San Francisco during the 1990s, along with the artist Barry McGee. Campbell’s work has found a widespread audience, leading to exhibitions at Roberts and Tilton in Los Angeles and Joshua Liner Gallery in New York. He was included as one of the seminal bi-coastal artists in the 2008 documentary Beautiful Losers. Today, the artist lives and works in Bonny Doon, CA
