Biography
Yang Yongliang is a contemporary Chinese artist. Working with digital manipulation, Yang depicts scenes from traditional Chinese landscape paintings and calligraphy through the photographic medium. His work employs contemporary images of cities and cars, which he alters and adjusts to fit within these classically composed and serene landscapes, maintaining a foggy black-and-white aesthetic. Born on July 27, 1980 in Shanghai, China, he went on to study both at the Shanghai Art & Design Academy and the China Academy of Art. Today, Yang’s work can be found in the collections of the British Museum in London, the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, among others. He lives and works in Shanghai, China.
