For the 2024 edition of Art Basel Hong Kong, DE SARTHE is pleased to present At the Threshold, a curated exhibition of new and boundary-pushing artworks by the gallery's roster of artists, to be highlighted in three different sectors of the fair including Galleries, Encounters, and Film.As of 2024, the acceleration of human innovation has ushered our existence into a perpetually transitory state. Every vessel of our consciousness - be it of art, technology, or otherwise – is created with the inherent expectation of expiration. Contemporary experiences are not only ephemeral but, owing to the kaleidoscopic development of everything, subject to phenomenology. As of this moment, the human species collectively exists as a fragmented and indefinite mass within a liminal and boundless space – and we ask, under this context and that of art: what does it mean to be boundary-pushing?In order to push toward the future, it is speculated that we must first possess an awareness of the prevailing. Via varied methodologies, the presented practices are anchored within an array of different contexts, crafting references to both immediate and universal conditions. In its entirety, the presentation contemplates the innumerable variations of limitations, bespoke to each existence. Bound together like a book of short stories, the collective narrative reads as if a discovery on the tip of the tongue – never to be resolved, but always at the threshold.

Galleries | Booth 3C08: Jung Jin, Chan Ka Kiu, Lov-Lov, Lu Xinjian, Ma Sibo, Mak2, Caison Wang, and Zhong Wei

An eight-artist group presentation of new canvas, mixed media, and video artworks that sample from the varied points of convergence between art and technology, exploring the moving boundaries of human existence. Bound together like a book of short stories, the collective narrative reads as if a discovery on the tip of the tongue – never to be resolved, but always at the threshold.
