Forum Gallery is pleased to return to this year’s edition of Art Miami, presented once again at One Herald Plaza @ NE 14th Street. The fair opens to the public on Wednesday, December 6, and runs through Sunday, December 10, with a Preview on December 5 for VIP Passholders.
In our booth AM-108, Forum Gallery will present an exceptional selection of paintings and drawings by twentieth-century and contemporary masters. A highlight of our booth this year will be a special group of works on paper by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), curated for originality, provenance, and condition, as we commemorate fifty years since the Artist’s death and honor his considerable artistic accomplishments of unparalleled genius.
Created between 1959 and 1960, Forum Gallery will present three electric abstract expressions by Elaine de Kooning (1918-1989). The two “abstractions” and “bull” on view are vibrantly colorful paintings on board and paper executed with the wild gestural brushstrokes of Elaine de Kooning’s characteristic action painting.
We will bring rare, breathtaking figurative works by Nelson Shanks (1937-2015) and Kent Bellows (1949-2005); four incredible new paintings and drawings by Clio Newton (b.1989) just in from her studio in Zürich, Switzerland; timeless oil paintings by Alan Feltus (b.1943) revealing figures in enigmatic relationships created in his studio in Assisi, Italy; and new, psychologically-charged paintings by Alyssa Monks (b.1977), effortlessly merging the female form with kaleidoscopic floral elements.
We will present a new selection of striking and evocative watercolors by Rance Jones (b.1965), whose art is dedicated to telling stories of life in modern-day Cuba, inspired by his most recent visit; and an immersive oil on panel by Chilean artist Guillermo Muñoz Vera (b.1956) revealing of the mystery and beauty of The Alhambra and Andalusian region of southern Spain.
The immaculate surfaces and realist precision of Alan Magee (b.1947), known for his compelling works of larger-than-life arrangements of objects sourced from the rustic coastline of his home in Maine, will be on view in recent paintings of driftwood and river stone arrangements. Ethereal and timeless, also on display will be meticulously rendered, poetic still life works by G. Daniel Massad (b.1946) in velvety pastel; drawings of the snowy rural Ohio countryside by Anthony Mitri (b.1951) in rich charcoal; and a landscape of the gardens of Santa Monica in tempera by Robert Bauer (b.1942). We are excited to be bringing recent paintings by the ever-inventive Brian Rutenberg (b.1965), whose vivid, textural abstractions celebrate the lowcountry landscape of his childhood in jewel-toned color with energetic gesture and virtuosic mark-making.Rounding out our presentation will be new hand-stitched quilted works by Michael C. Thorpe (b.1993), whose whimsical compositions reflect Thorpe’s experiences as a young artist working in New York, his New England background, and life as a bi-racial man in America. His work will be the focus of four solo museum exhibitions across the country in 2024.
