We cordially invite you to the finissage of our exhibition poetry of lines & grains on 14 July 2023 at 7 pm.

In the exhibition, the drawings and sculptures of Irene Weingartner enter into an exciting dialogue with the photographs of Kris Scholz. Irene Weingartner and Kris Scholz both deal with the relationship of humankind to nature and architecture in nature.

Irene Weingartner sees her drawings in close connection with scientific imaging processes. The artist uses herself as a kind of seismograph to directly record impressions from her external and internal world in a pictorial way. The fragile pencil and ink drawings are created from a multitude of small strokes and dots that come together in their entirety to form a concentrated image. As a result, they break away from abstraction and a concrete image emerges, such as a landscape.

To achieve a different view of the world, Kris Scholz uses the paper negative process in his long-term project the silent view. Here, baryte photographic paper is used instead of film for the photographs taken with the large-format camera.  Baryte paper has a red-green insensitivity, so that only the blue part of the light exposes the negative. The pictures show something that our eyes cannot perceive in this way. They allow us to get closer and capture a moment of disappearance that is not visible to the naked eye.

Irene Weingartner (*1971, Nottwill, CH) graduated in Fine Arts from the School of Art and Design in Lucerne, Switzerland, followed by a Masters in Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Art & Design in London, UK. 

Kris Scholz (*1952, Hannover, GER) completed his studies in photography at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the Becher class. From 2005 to 2021 he was professor of photography at the Hochschule Darmstadt.
