For Zona Maco 2022, The Mark Hachem Gallery presents individuality and distinctive artistic styles through two key movements in the world of contemporary art: Kinetic Art and Post-Cubism. The gallery aims to explore the roots of the kinetic movement and follow it through time as different artists introduce post-cubist elements into kinetic-inspired artworks, describing the ever-changing nature of art as it evolves into new forms of creativity with new techniques and methods of bringing ideas to life.
The iconic masters Victor Vasarely, Jesus Rafael Soto, Carlos Cruz Diez and Dario Perez Flores were key players during the rise of the kinetic movement in the 1960s, shaping it and allowing it to emerge into the art world. However, though they all focused on this single movement, they each developed an individual style, which has since impacted generations of artists and styles. Post-cubism has also driven French artist Philippe Hiquily to create something different and unique. Though inspired by the Post-Cubist movement, Hiquily did not adhere strictly to its practices, and chose instead to marginalize himself by including Surrealist elements into his work, allowing this movement to be viewed in a new light through his personal artistic lens. Each of these artists’ work presents a different outlook on artistic movements and the evolution of art through the ages. Through this exhibition, The Mark Hachem Gallery aims to remind the viewer that art is not stagnant. It moves, it grows, and it evolves with each artist’s individual take on the movement’s premise. It is a tapestry of histories woven together, creating a new image with each added thread.
