The artist was educated at the City College of New York and Atelier Zadkine in Paris. He received a National Arts Council Award and Longview Foundation Grants.
Exhibitions
He has exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art Annual and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. A recent retrospective exhibition of Sugarman’s work was held in 2002 in New York City at Gary Tatintsian Gallery. Entitled, “Yellow to White to Blue to Black” the show displayed selected drawings, collages, and sculptures. In 1993 he was given an exhibition at the Contemporary Sculpture Center, Tokyo, Japan. Sugarman has exhibited in numerous shows throughout the world, including Galerie Christiane Chassay, Montreal, Quebec; the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis, Ohio; Galleria Peccolo, Livorno, Italy; Galerie Ziegler, Zurich, Switzerland.
