A sculptor’s line moves between the second and third dimensions. Many of the most original sculptors in the twentieth century had a facility with both plastic media, like plaster and bronze, and graphic media, like graphite and oil paint. The architectural demands of sculpture have long dictated that sculptors must also be draughtsmen. Michelangelo, Bernini and Rodin were all famed for their drawings as well as their sculptures. This display brings together art by some of the most imaginative sculptor-artists of twentieth- and twenty-first-century Britain and Europe, including Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Elisabeth Frink, William Turnbull and Damien Hirst.
