Anita Rogers Gallery is pleased to present INTERSECTIONS I, a group exhibition featuring work by three New York City-based artists: Gary Gissler, Barbara Knight and John McDevitt King. The exhibition will be on view November 8, 2023 through January 6, 2024 at 494 Greenwich Street, GFL in New York City. The gallery will host a reception with the artists on Wednesday, November 8, 6-8pm. Please RSVP to [email protected] to attend.

These three artists challenge and expand the viewer’s perceptions – Knight’s corrugated cardboard recalls the wild, rocky land and seascape of Greece, King's evocations of urban space and light become strange and sensitive new worlds, and in Gissler’s hands, classic texts, such as Moby Dick, transform into ethereal abstract worlds. Here, art does not exist in a vacuum – these artists make such use of the world around them that the viewer can then see it anew.

Gissler will present large panels utilizing language and excerpts of texts, as well as works related to his psychoanalytic practice, including drawings made while under the influence of psychedelics. Knight will exhibit a mix of small-scale collaged paper pieces made in Crete and shaped wall sculptures of corrugated cardboard collaged with detritus and papers torn from New York City billboards. King's work will include encaustic paintings on panels as well as intricate pencil drawings.. Each of these three artists has lived and worked in New York City for decades; their collective years spent here give way to work that is mysterious, explorative, and that opens up slowly to the viewer over time.

For further information and photographs, please contact Elizabeth Thompson at [email protected], or call 347.604.2346. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday 10am – 6pm.
