Falling Angels : Allegories about the 7 Sins and 7 Virtues for Falling Angels and other Curious Minds

What is good and what is bad ?
What is right and what is wrong ?
What are sins and what are virtues ?
That is the topic of this series.
Thinking about sins and virtues has dominated morality, religions, legends and myths in Western cultures for more than 2000 years. Even 500 years ago Pieter Breughel the Elder made an entire series of sketches around this topic : and we will walk in the footsteps of Pieter Breughel - but with some contemporary glasses on...  So in this work, each of the 7 "capital" sins and "capital" virtues will be presented in a creative composition - in a contemporary fashion - with bridges or links to the past. It is a kind of mirror just to see yourself and the world from different perspectives. But in a playful way with a good dose of irony, a blink of the eye and many grains of salt … More specifically the ambiguities in the spectrum of sins and virtues will be explored and exposed in a series of original visual compositions. And how we human beings – and falling angels – struggle to find the balance.

This work will take you on an adventurous trip through time and across the barriers and edges of reality, mythology, religion and culture. That is why this work, in a kind of artistic way, will act as a rearview mirror to look into the past, in the future, and then again in the present, to see if we can connect the dots … But we will do that with a twinkle in the eye, and a grain of salt… And in our mental air trip we will drive through highs and lows of legends and myths, religions and movies…
In any case: Put on your wings and sharpen your curious mind, please !

"Behind every sin there is a virtue, and behind every virtue there is a sin"
